Advantages of the DT Hub
This shiftable system gives better fuel mileage when in direct drive by being able to drive at highway speed at a lower RPM than a vehicle with full time planetary drive. The DT Hub also has a reduced heat buildup in the planetary gears when in direct drive which aids in longer oil life and less wear and tear, resulting in less down time than full time planetary systems. By using OEM Meritor or Eaton Dana rear ends and the DT Hubs you have a stronger axle, housing and hub combination than a full time planetary rear end allowing for heavier vertical loads on the rear ends. DT Hubs also reduce the torque and stress on the OEM rear end and drive line while increasing the torque in the planetary wheel end. These advantages lead to benefits that contribute to a better return on investment than full time planetary rear ends.
Traditionally, all full time planetary drive systems on class 8 trucks that are geared high enough to achieve highway speed lose their efficiency to perform in soft off-road conditions and their ability to lift heavy loads.
Additional advantages include:
- The capital cost for shiftable DT Hubs is less than full time planetaries.
- The shiftable DT Hubs give more versatility to your unit allowing you to do more jobs with less equipment.
- When equipment updating is needed, you can transfer the DT Hubs from your unit to the replacement unit, thus saving the cost of new planetaries.
